For better broadband performance Cablecomm always recommend that all non portable devices such as smart TV’s, games consoles, streaming TV boxes etc be connected with a Ethernet cable (yellow or grey cable supplied at time of installation of modem). This is especially important if you are streaming video to your TV, or games console. These devices are not portable as they are plugged in with a power cable, so why not plug in the additional ethernet cable for better performance.
While WiFi is convent, all it takes is a fraction of a second of a drop in your WiFi signal (not your incoming broadband) or your WiFi being busy with another family member on your home network and your video stream will start buffering. A wired connection with a ethernet cable is much more robust and you will not have these annoying issues caused by WiFi dropping. Additionally it leaves your WiFi more available for other portable devices.
All the Cablecomm modems come with 4 gigabit Ethernet ports, these gigabit ports are the yellow ports located on the rear of the modem. Have a look at our Video # 4 on connecting with a wired Ethernet cable.
Tip…. when you plug in the ethernet cable, remember to check the device settings on your TV / games console to make sure the TV / games console has selected the superior ethernet option as opposed to WiFi.
If you need additional or longer Ethernet cables we stock these in lengths up to 20 meters in our office and can sell them to you at cost.
If your smart TV’s, games consoles or streaming TV boxes is in a different room to your cable modem, you can use a power line adapter to connect the remote room.
